Dharwad: Police have nabbed a
jewel thief, who was facing over a dozen cases. They also recovered gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 6.75 lakh from Imtiyaaz Yargatti, a resident of Kaddi Oni in
Dharwad. He was wanted in several theft cases and a manhunt had been launched to nab him.

M N Nagaraj said that they have confiscated gold ornaments weighing 181gm, 1 kg silver and one LED TV.
In September last year, Imtiyaaz broke windowpanes of a house belonging to Kadappa Patil at Saraswathpur and decamped with 14gm gold, 250gm silver and some cash. A case was registered and a special team was formed to nab Imtiyaaz.
On Monday, police caught him while he was trying to enter a house at Tejaswi Nagar using duplicate keys. A team, led by inspector Mahantesh Hospet and sub-inspector N K Gurlhosur, nabbed Imtiyaaz. Imtiyaaz has confessed to his crime.
Nagaraj said that Imtiyaaz was a habitual offender and an alcoholic. He used to wear a jacket, keeping equipment required to break open doors and windowpanes. He had undergone jail term earlier in theft cases.
Police are trying to identify Imtiyaaz’s accomplices.
