Phinma Microtel Hotels and its partners have invested P650 million to create a new 191-room property at the Mall of Asia (MOA) complex.
It was the first of the eight TRYP properties that Phinma had committed to developed in the nation in the next 10 years. Phinma Microtel Hotels is the Philippine master franchise holder of both TRYP and Microtel. Both of them represent international hotel chains under US-based Wyndham Hotel and Resorts group.
Prior to taxes, Microtel MOA offers rooms at P4,100 to P5,000 per night.
And, TRYP charges P500 to P1,000 more than its sister brand. But then TRYP also offers many guest rooms for bigger groups like loft-type rooms with as many as triple bunk beds for families or ‘barkadas’.

The family rooms and the sunset suites cost nearly P15,000 per night.
As a brand, TRYP by Wyndham is a ‘select-service’ urban hotel.
It implies it might not have all the amenities of a deluxe hotel. This first property in MOA however, offers a roof deck pool and bar, gym, lounge areas and on-site restaurant. This would be setting the tone for future TRYP hotels.
The MOA hotel is just the third TRYP to rise in the region.
The brand has already gained foothold in Myanmar and Australia. The Phinma group now has a total of 1,150 rooms in its hospitality scenario.
Del Rosario said that business in the Bay region has been very good.
This area boasts of a great combination of potential guests and is much better as compared to that in any other regions thanks to various entertainment and convention facilities like shopping malls, theaters and integrated resorts. The MOA complex is a favored site for concerts and fun runs thereby benefitting nearby hotels.
And since it has a soft opening late last year, TRYP had been able to get a chunk of the business from the Philippines’ recent hosting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (Asean) meetings.
Nearly 80% of business of Microtel is obtained from domestic tourists though for a few properties like Puerto Princesa and Boracay, a majority of guests are foreigners.
