The TV channel AbbTak published a report on the motion.
These reports did not specify which Chinese language would become official - for there is no single 'Chinese language,' but a group that includes Mandarin and Cantonese.
Mandarin is widely spoken in mainland China.
The Pakistan Senate's move come at a time when diplomatic ties between Beijing and Islamabad are strong - often to India's detriment.
China has also invested in a $60 billion project, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which passes through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
