In a major security breach, a video featuring Shabhulal Regar, a Rajasthan man jailed after a horrific hate-crime, has been recorded inside the Jodhpur Central Jail and circulated on social media. In a video circulated on Sunday, Regar is seen speaking with most of his words being anti-Islam propaganda.
The two new videos in circulation have Regar repeat his rant against “jihadis” inside what appears to be his jail cell. Wearing a hoodie, he speaks into a cellphone and reads out from a long, hate-filled statement asking Hindus to unite against Jihadis. In one of the videos, he alleges a threat to his life. In an alleged second video, allegedly shot inside the jail, Regar denies this and says he has no regrets for his actions but ‘felt bad’ that the law and the media portrayed him as the one who had an illicit relationship with the woman.
“I couldn’t bear threats to Hindu women. I have ruined my life and I don’t regret it. But I am sad about the fact that the law and the media showed illicit relationship with her and me,” Regar says.
Meanwhile, we can’t verify the authenticity of the cellphone videos that raise serious questions on security and vigilance inside jails. To note, State Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria has ordered an investigation into how Regar accessed a phone inside the high security prison.
In December, Shambhu Lal Reger repeatedly attacked 50-year-old Afrazul, a construction worker with a shovel, brutally killing him. He then poured inflammable substance on the body and put it on fire. Shambhu Lal even shot a video of himself while talking about Love Jihad and patriotism. Shambhu Lal took Afrazul to an agriculture farm, just 700 meters from the Rajsamand district collector office where he carried out the heinous murder. The farm belongs to the murder accused.
