VW ID Vizzion Concept Previews A Stylish Tesla Model S Fighter

Volkswagen is teasing the fourth member of the zero-emission I.D. family, the Vizzion Concept, ahead of its Geneva Motor Show presentation early next month.

The study is described as a 5.11m (201.2 inches) long “premium class saloon”, which sounds like a slightly longer (possibly future) Tesla Model S rival.

The three official sketches dropped by Volkswagen reveal a fastback design with a contrasting roof and large wheels to highlight its sporty stance, and suicide rear doors that will probably be dropped from the final production model.

Inside, it offers four individual seats, and has a lounge-like styling. Notice that there’s no steering wheel present, and that the VW ID Vizzion lacks the usual pedals, instrument dials, and other features. That’s because it features autonomous driving, which lets it steer and navigate on its own in traffic, allowing passengers “to freely structure their time during the drive”, according to the automaker.

Artificial Intelligence is present inside as well, in the form of a “virtual host”, which allows occupants to communicate via voice and gesture control, learning their preferences and adapting to each one, individually.

Powering it are two electric motors that channel a combined output of 306PS (302hp) to both axles. Top speed is said to be 180km/h (112mph), and the 111kWh lithium-ion battery allows it to travel for up to 665km (413miles) in between charges, “when braking regeneration is factored in”.

The first member of the VW ID family will be the electric compact hatchback, in 2020, followed shortly by the ID Crozz, and ID Buzz. The production version of the ID Vizzion will probably join them not long after their premieres.

    It’s not easy to only have to design options:
    A. Design a Golf
    B. Design a less premium-ish Audi.

    But I still think they are doing a better job than their Japanese counterpart Toyota. Sometimes you just want a functionalistic car without childish bling, and that’s were VW are still sometimes the king.

      I agree they are the masters functional car design without the bling…but when they step out of that box and try to be creative it doesnt seem to work that well. The I.D. range just looks like a normal VW with childish bling, not a new futuristic range of cars
