The election campaigning is gaining momentum for the Assembly elections in Meghalaya and Nagaland. With just a week left for the campaigning, candidates are seen making last ditch efforts to woo the voters. Both the States will go to the polls on 27th of the month. The results would be declared on March 3.
In Nagaland, with an advancement of technology, political parties are not putting posters on walls. Respective tribal organisations and civil societies have restricted setting up of political party youth camps to avoid clashes among the supporters of rival parties. Altogether 195 candidates are in the fray for the 59 seats.
NDPP's chief ministerial candidate Neiphiu Rio has already won from the Northern Angami-II seat.
In Meghalaya, Nationalist Congress Party candidate of William Nagar Assembly seat Jonathan Sangma was killed in an IED blast last evening. His vehicle was ambushed by suspected militant GnlA, when he was on way to his home, after an election campaign.
Two of his security personnel were also reportedly killed in the attack. It has been reported that Sangma was earlier forbidden from filing his nomination paper. The Election Commission of India will today officially declare the postponement of the election in the constituency. Meanwhile, poll campaigning is going smoothly in other constituencies of the state.
