Techie’s sister, however, says no help is needed at this stage

The Andhra Pradesh government has offered assistance to the family of software engineer Lavanya Jangath, 30, who suffered serious injuries in an attack by robbers who took away her valuables in Perumbakkam here early on Tuesday.

“I received a call from the State authorities of Andhra Pradesh offering assistance. But we don’t need any at this stage. The IT firm, in which my sister is employed, is taking care of the hospital expenses. My sister is recovering well and all credit goes to the hospital authorities and the Chennai police,” Ms. Jangath’s sister Narisha told The Hindu on Saturday.

She said a lot of people were calling to offer help. Asked if Ms. Jangath chose to return home on her two-wheeler on that night, Ms. Narisha said the company did provide her cab services on night shifts but she preferred to use her vehicle.

After three suspects involved in the robbery were apprehended and one of the mobile phones taken away from the victim recovered, Additional Commissioner of Police (South) M.C. Sarangan and Joint Commissioner of Police (South) T.S. Anbu met Ms. Jangath at the hospital.

“She was happy that the culprits have been arrested. The investigation was closely monitored by Commissioner of Police A.K. Viswanathan who, a couple of weeks ago, reviewed the safety of women employees in IT companies at a meeting convened by NASSCOM in Chennai,” Dr. Sarangan said.
