Philanthropists support Wheelchair League

Gurugram: The 3-day 'Indian Wheelchair Cricket League' organized by the Para Sports Foundation finished it's day 2 on Saturday. The League, being held at Lancers International School in Gurugram, is the first of its kind event, read a release. Pankaj Bansal, philanthropist and director of M3M India, said, "It gives me immense happiness to support such a noble cause. These cricketers are true heroes and just watching them play with such valour and confidence is not just a delight to watch but also a learning experience in itself. They are resilient and brave and I am honoured that I was able to contribute to their lives and this sport."

Chennaiyin take on Jamshedpur in isl

chennai: Chennaiyin FC take on Jamshedpur FC in an Indian Super League game at the Marina Arena here on Sunday with an eye on a win and improve their chances of advancing to the play-offs. With 27 points from 15 games, Chennaiyin are third in the standings behind the already qualified Bengaluru FC and FC Pune City. A victory against Jamshedpur, currently fourth in the table (on 25), will push the former champions into second. Coach John Gregory had praised the team after a 1-0 away win against Goa, their third straight clean sheet. He will be expecting the players to continue their impressive form in Sunday's encounter and importantly come away with a win.

Sandeep wins men's 50km race walk gold

new delhi: National record holder Sandeep Kumar hardly broke a sweat as he easily clinched gold in men's 50km event while Priyanka Patel shattered the national record in women's Under-20 10 km category in the National Race Walking Championship here on Saturday. The 31-year-old Sandeep, representing Haryana, clocked 3 hours 56 minute and 39.71 seconds to win the 50km race walk event. His timing was around 40 seconds slower than his own national record of 3:56:00 set in the National Championships here last year. Patel, representing Uttar Pradesh, won the women's U-20 10km event in national record timing of 49:01.81.

Tiwary wins it for Bengal, helps Delhi enter q/f

Dharamsala: Delhi on Saturday got a fresh lease of life as they qualified for the Vijay Hazare Trophy quarter-finals after Manoj Tiwary's unbeaten 104 helped Bengal beat Himachal Pradesh by six wickets in a Group B encounter here on Saturday. Maharashtra are the second team from the group to have qualified for the knockout stages. Delhi had finished their group league engagements with 16 points from six matches with successive defeats in their final two encounters. Delhi would be grateful to Tiwary and Abhimanyu Easwaran (90) for chasing down a target of 267 with minimum fuss in 48 overs.
