Backing Jana Sena Party (JSP) founder Pawan Kalyan’s idea of moving a motion of no-confidence in the Narendra Modi Government to press for Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh, YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday wanted him to take the lead by talking to other parties to muster the support of the MPs for the purpose. He was responding to Mr. Pawan Kalyan’s statement in Hyderabad on Saturday, asking the TDP and the YSRCP to prove their sincerity in taking up the State’s cause by tabling a no-confidence motion or resigning en masse.
“The YSRCP will take the fight for SCS to New Delhi in March first week when the Budget session of Parliament resumes, table a no-confidence motion in the last week of the session, and resort to the last step of resigning on April 6,” he said during his Praja Sankalpa Yatra at Kandukur in Prakasam district.
Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy asserted that the YSRCP with 5 MPs was ready to table the motion of no-confidence in the larger interest of the State. “We are even ready to back the TDP if it moves such a motion,” he said, but put the onus on Mr. Pawan Kalyan of mustering the support of 54 MPs required to take up a discussion on the motion.
‘Ready to support TDP’
Making it clear that the YSRCP was ready to join hands with the TDP to protect the State’s interests, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy wanted the TDP MPs to take a cue from his MPs, who had decided to put in their papers on April 6. He asked Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to shed his “fancy for special package in lieu of the SCS.”
“All that we want is Mr. Naidu should ask all the TDP MPs to put in their papers to protect the State’s interests,” he said.
RS election
Referring to the ensuing Rajya Sabha elections from the State, the YSRCP nominee, V. Prabhakar Reddy, would sail through comfortably given the party’s strength in the Assembly, he said, and wanted the Election Commission to ensure a free and fair election. Action should be taken against those legislators who had defected to the TDP after being elected on the YSRCP ticket, he reiterated. YSRCP Chief Whip in Parliament Y.V. Subba Reddy expressed the hope that the Private Member Bill moved by him to press for SCS would come up for discussion duri ng the Budget session. Party MPs would call on Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and insist on early listing of the Bill for discussion and voting in the Lok Sabha, he said.
Earlier, Mr. Jagan claimed that all sections of people were dissatisfied with the performance of the TDP government.
Farmers were struggling due to non-remunerative price for the produce and youth were suffering because of lack of jobs. Many students were unable to continue education due to “dilution” of the fee reimbursement scheme. Patients were suffering as the Arogyasri scheme remained dysfunctional, he alleged.
He promised to bring back the “golden regime” of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
He promised to bring to fruition the Ramayapatnam port project. He also promised to ensure early completion of the Somasila works to ensure water to the drought-prone Kandukur Assembly segment if voted to power in the next elections.
