FALL RIVER- Police are investigating another social media threat warning of a "Florida Part 2" school massacre in Fall River.
This time, the threat — which was apparently posted late Friday night on Snapchat and was being circulated Friday and Saturday on Facebook — mentions "Henry Lord, Diman, Durfee, Talbot and more" and includes emojis of a bomb and knife and an expletive-laden note.
The post follows a similar threat shared last Thursday on Snapchat where someone warned of a "Florida pt 2" scenario at B.M.C. Durfee High School.
The threats followed last Wednesday's shooting at a Parkland, Florida, high school that left 17 dead. Several schools across the country have since reported receiving anonymous threats, including in Westport and Dartmouth.
The first threat in Fall River prompted school officials to notify parents, and had local police officers providing extra security at Durfee on Friday morning.
On Saturday, Superintendent Matt Malone said in an email that the school department learned of the new threat on Thursday night and is working with the Fall River Police Department in its investigation.
"It is an anonymous Snapchat post. The threat is very similar to the one we received Thursday," Malone said. "We always take these threats serious and we employ appropriate responsible secure measures daily and we have the ability to employ enhanced security as the situation dictates."
Students won't be at Durfee, or any other Fall River schools, next week — it's a vacation week.
In another email message on Saturday, Fall River police Sgt. James Smith said police Sgt. Keith Strong and the two school resource officers who are assigned to Durfee "were made aware of this secondary threat last night and are actively pursuing this investigation."
