Indian captain Virat Kohli is well known for his mastery with the bat and his ability to lead from the front in pressure situations. Another aspect of Virat’s cricket is his top quality fielding which is a direct result of his high levels of fitness.

Kohli, who scored a fantastic unbeaten century during the final ODI against South Africa to help wrap up a 5-1 series win against the hosts, added his name to yet another list of elite Indian cricketers, but this time he did it even before stepping out to bat.

The Indian captain took two catches in the South African innings to help dismiss Heinrich Klaasen and Imran Tahir to notch up a century of catches. That makes him the seventh Indian cricketer to take a 100 catches or more in ODI cricket.

Ahead of Kohli on the list of the best Indian catchers are the likes of Suresh Raina (100), Nayan Mongia (110), Sachin Tendulkar (140), Mohammad Azharuddin (156), Rahul Dravid (196) and MS Dhoni (294).

What makes this achievement all the more sweeter is the fact that, just before the start of the ODI series, the Indian team were subjected to a lot of flak for their poor fielding show during the Test matches.

Kohli’s 100th catch was of the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah to account for Imran Tahir’s wicket which saw the Proteas get bowled out for 204. The Indian captain who is also considered the master of the chase, then did what he does best – took India over the line in emphatic fashion with more than 15 overs still to spare.

With the T20 series about to commence, India, coached by Ravi Shastri will hope the Indian captain can continue to with his prolific ways, both with the bat and on the field.
