Shrashti Maheshwari talks about her debut film Shaadi Teri Bajayenge Hum Band, her co-stars and why she wants to play negative characters on television

Remember Pari from Bigg Boss season 7, who appeared with Jallad and Salman Khan couldn’t stop cracking jokes about the two? The young actress Shrashti Maheshwari is set to make her Bollywood debut with upcoming film Shaadi Teri Bajayenge Hum Band. Directed by Gurpreet Sondh, the film is releasing on March 23 and also stars Rahul Bagga, Rajpal Yadav, Mushtaq Khan and Rohit Kumar among others.

Shrashti, who plays the female lead, says, “The film is about Rahul and I getting married and the troubles that arise in the ceremony. So I take Rahul’s case, his friends’ girlfriends take their case, Rahul’s father takes his case etc.”

She says her role is that of a sweet and fun-loving person. “She is possessive about Rahul.” The actress can’t stop gushing about her co-star and says, “He is a very good actor and a supportive co-star. It was my first film but Rahul guided me beautifully. Although I have worked in theatre and television, acting in films is a different ball game. I have learnt so much from him, Rajpal sir and Mushtaq sir.”

Before getting into films, Shrashti has extensively worked in television with shows like Do Dil Bandhey Ek Dori Se, Dilko Aaj Fir Jeene ki Tamannah Hai, Laut Aao Trisha, Thapki Pyaar Ki, Tujhse Naaraz Nahin Zindagi, Brahmarakshas, Hanuman, Ganesha and others. She says that there’s a huge difference between working for TV and films. “In television, while working in a series, we shoot some 10 scenes a day. We shoot quickly because we need to finish those scenes and it gets very tiring. But in films, we either shoot a single or maybe three scenes a day so we get time to understand a scene, improvise, discuss and then enact it. Films give you time and you therefore connect with them,” she explains.

Shrashti is taking a break from television for a while. “If a good show comes up, I will take it up. But I want the industry to watch me and then offer me work.”

She says that in case of television, she will continue doing negative characters because it requires a lot of hard work. “It’s easy to play a positive character. But in case of characters with grey shades, you have to put in a lot of efforts,” says the actor.

Speaking of Bigg Boss, she says, “It was an awesome experience. I got such an amazing response. It was great working with Salman sir because he used to be protective about me because I was just 19 years old,” she signs off.
