Shiv Sena activists today tried to disrupt vehicular movement in neighbouring Navi Mumbai in protest against Ahmednagar deputy mayor Shripad Chindam's remarks against Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The protests were held on Airoli-Mulund bridge and at Diva Circle in Airoli at around 11 A.M. "There were some agitations by the Shiv Sena, due to which traffic was disrupted for some time. We cleared the road for vehicular movement after removing them," said Pradip Tidar, senior Police Inspector, Rabale police station.
Nobody was arrested as protests were held in a peaceful manner. Chindam, a BJP leader, allegedly made the objectionable comments against the 17th century warrior king while ticking up of an employee of the Ahmednagar civic body.
In a video circulated on WhatsApp, Chindam was purportedly seen offering apology for saying objectionable things about Shivaji "unintentionally". Ahmednagar Lok Sabha MP Dilip Gandhi had said that Chindam would be dismissed from the party.
