China today warned the United States of necessary measures if it imposes tough trade sanctions against Beijing's steel and aluminium exports. Director at China's commerce ministry, Wang Hejun in a statement said, if the US' final decision affects China's interests, Beijing will take necessary measures to defend its rights. The US Commerce Department on Friday recommended imposing heavy tariffs on China and other countries to counter a global glut in steel and aluminium. The move gives Trump the opportunity to strike a highly public blow for his America first trade policy. The US and EU argue Chinese overproduction is heavily subsidised by the state and has depressed world prices, hurting their own domestic production.
