A total of 15 tamers were injured in a jallikattu held at Thavasimadai village as part St. Antony’s Church festival near here on Sunday.

The injured were treated in a medical camp held at the village. Several bulls dominated the field, posing a grave threat to tamers. A very few tamers proved their agility in the field. With narrow play field, the bulls easily crossed the play area and ran towards the exit point.

A total of 434 bulls from Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Pudukottai and Tiruchi districts took part and 300 tamers participated. The courageous tamers and bull owners were honoured with attractive prizes.

Tamers were divided into several groups and allowed to play in batches. Sufficient force was deployed at the village to regulate the crowd and the tamers. Health officials conducted a special medical camp to treat injured tamers. Veterinary doctors checked the health condition of all registered bulls before allowing them to pass through vadivasal.
