Rahul Gandhi welcomes Arvinder Singh Lovely in party

Former Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely, who had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nine months ago, rejoined the Congress on Saturday. Lovely was a key minister in the erstwhile Sheila Dikshit government in Delhi, who had joined the BJP along with Delhi Youth Congress chief Amit Malik.

Lovely, while leaving the Congress party back then, had said that many senior Congress leaders were feeling “suffocated” as the party is no longer what it used to be. This came as he raked up allegations of bribery in ticket distribution for the MCD polls by the Congress.

However, in a press conference today, he said that the decision of leaving Congress and joining BJP was not a happy choice he had made. He called himself "ideologically misfit" in the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Earlier today, Lovely met Congress President Rahul Gandhi who welcomed him back into the party. Sheila Dikshit too appreciated his "homecoming" stating that it is good that he has realised.

Lovely had a 31-year long association with the Congress before leaving the grand-old party in 2017. He has never lost an election since he was elected to the Delhi Assembly for the first time in 1998. In 2013, he won from Gandhi Nagar constituency, however, he did not contest in 2015.
