With inadequate bus service in many hamlets in Kadambur hills continue to be a major impeding factor for the development of people living there, they demand improving the basic amenities at the existing bus stand.
Buses from Anthiyur and Sathyamangalam halt at the bus stand and move towards Gundri, Guthiyalathur, Makkampalayam and other hamlets that are located deep inside the forests. The bus stand has no drinking water, chairs or toilet facilities where people wait for longer hours to board the buses to their destination. In the absence of chairs, people have to sit on the floor as this is their condition for many years now. The old public toilet complex near the bus stand was closed recently and a new toilet was constructed two months ago. Water connection was not given and the new toilet is yet to be thrown open for public use.
Since it takes more than two hours to reach our village, basic amenities like water and toilet facilities should be at the bus stand, said a villagers from Makkampalayam. Villagers said that despite assurance by politicians and government officials every year, basic amenities were not created in the premises.
“We cannot buy water for ₹ 15 a bottle regularly,” said R. Saravana Kumar, a mason. Since people wait for long hours at the bus stand, the administration should ensure that basic amenities are in place, he added.
Their other demands include, increasing the frequency of buses to villages by including more new small buses and provide a display chart of bus timings on the premises.
