Bombay High Court has withdrawn interim protection from arrest earlier granted to Pune-based builder D S Kulkarni and wife Hemanti in an alleged cheating case.
Vacating her order granting anticipatory bail to the couple, Justice Jadhav said the duo had not only cheated their investors, but also the court. The couple is accused of cheating over 2,500 investors to the tune of 230 crore rupees. The court had granted them relief based on their assurance that they would deposit 50 crore rupees with the court and will repay the investors by selling their properties.
However, during todays hearing, the prosecution informed the court one of said property was already mortgaged to a bank and another was a government plot reserved for public amenities that cannot be sold. Shocked by the applicant’s false claims, the court has asked the prosecuting agency to initiate arrest or any other suitable action against the Kulkarni couple.
