U.S.-Spec BMW X2 Shows Up In Dealerships, Looks Good In Black

The first examples of the X2 have started arriving at U.S. dealerships around the country, giving prospective customers a much better look at BMW’s latest SUV.

Available at Century West BMW in California, this black example right here is the first U.S.-spec X2 we’ve come across.

The new BMW X2 will be initially available in the US only with the turbocharged 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-four engine and the xDrive all-wheel drive system in the xDrive28i model.

Power is rated at 228hp at 5,000-6,000rpm and 258lb-ft of peak torque between 1,450 and 4,500rpm. Paired to the standard eight-speed Steptronic transmission, the X2 xDrive28i is capable of a 0 to 60mph (0-96 km/h) sprint in an impressive 6.3 seconds.

BMW will also offer the M Sport X package, which is featured on the car you see in the photos, as an option. The sporty styling package features Frozen Grey accents throughout the car, providing an appealing visual contrast which is visible from almost every angle of the car, as well as a set of 19-inch double spoke wheels. Opt for the M Sport suspension and your BMW X2 will come lowered by 0.4 inches for sportier handling.

“The richly contrasting signature color Frozen Grey and recurring hexagonal elements are among its defining visual features,” said Marcus Syring, Head of Design BMW M Automobiles. “This model variant is inspired by rally racing. It embodies our interpretation of a new, young ‘M’ dynamic and offers a nuanced manifestation of sportiness.”

BMW will eventually add a front-drive sDrive28i in the X2 range, which will be cheaper than its all-wheel drive sibling. Pricing for the X2 xDrive28i will reportedly start from just under $40,000, and sales will commence this spring.

Saw one on the road that was on a test drive too. Don’t understand all the hate it keeps getting on the blogs. I thought it looked pretty good, but I also noticed that the test driver was a middle-aged woman and this demographic seems to gravitate towards this category. Especially where I was in upitty Connecticut

This thing actually looks nice in the M sport trim. I’d like wider tires in back though.

It’s one of their better styling exercises as of late, but why did they have to outline a mouth on the front? It looks like it’s wearing white lipstick (never a good look, especially on a car)!

    Why is it a 28i? Didn’t BMW replace the 28i with 30i?

That orange 3 Series and blue M3/M4 though
