An Anti-Terrorism Court in Lahore today convicted Imran Ali (23) in the rape and murder case of seven-year-old Zainab and slapped 'four death sentences' on him.

In addition to the death sentences, the court has also sentenced Imran Ali to life imprisonment and has levied a fine of Rs 10 lakh on him.

The Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court had earlier charged the 23-year-old in the rape and murder case of seven other girls last week apart from Zainab.

According to a report, a total of 36 witnesses testified against him on Feburary 12 at the court of Judge Sajjad Ahmad in Kot Lakhpat jail.

ZAINAB RAPE AND MURDER CASE

On January 5, Zainab had gone missing while going to a religious tuition centre near her house in Kasur city, some 50-km from Lahore. Her parents had been in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah and she had been living with her maternal aunt.

After her abduction, a CCTV footage showed her walking with a stranger near the Peerowala Road.

On January 9, her body was recovered from a heap of garbage near the Shahbaz Khan Road, following which an autopsy report confirmed rape.

Violent protests gripped the Kasur city following Zainab's murder that also claimed two lives. The Zainab incident also stirred a national outcry demanding justice for her.
