FICCI holds talk on women's education, empowerment
FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO), the women’s wing of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) organised a talk on ‘From Women's Education to Empowerment: A Man's Perspective’ here on Friday. The former vice chancellor of the university of Delhi, professor Dinesh Singh delivered the keynote address on the occasion. He spoke about Mahatma Gandhi's life with respect to importance of women. He referred to how Gandhi’s wife Kasturba introduced him to non violence. Singh said that he feels that empowerment is not about attaining formal education. Elaborating on this point, he said, “Every woman has an inner drum beat. Recognising that is more important than getting a formal degree. The goal is to recognise your own inner drum beat.” He gave examples of great personalities who had achieved excellence without any academic degree.
Speaking on the occasion, the Welham Boys School principal Gunmeet Bindra shared anecdotes from her life and how she survived all the hardships. She also threw light on misuse of women rights. Commenting during the session, the managing director of Doon International Group of Schools, Gaganjyot Mann said that education is an essential means of empowering women. Educating women also benefits families, she added.
FICCI FLO Uttarakhand chairperson Shilpi Arora also spoke on the occasion.
