In Tripura, all sorts of preparations have been made for Sunday’s assembly elections.
Voting will start at seven in the morning and will end at 4 PM. The voting will take place in 59 of the 60 constituencies.
Polling to Charilam (ST) seat will be held on the 12th of next month due to the death of CPIM candidate Ramendra Narayan Debbarma.
Chief Electoral Officer Sriram Tarikanti appealed to the electorates to exercise their democratic right without any fear and pressure.
AIR correspondent reports, a total of 292 candidates are in the fray, of them 20 are women candidates.
The election battle will be mainly fought between BJP and CPIM. There are total 25,32,423 voters in 59 constituencies and 3174 polling stations have been set up in the state; of them, 47 polling stations would be handled by all-women poll staff.
The Election Commission has made many arrangements in polling stations to facilitate the voters.
A ramp has been put up for physically challenged people at every polling station. Senior citizens will be given special assistance by the polling staff.
On the other side, Director General of Police A.K. Shukla said that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections.
He also said that the Indo-Bangla border has been sealed to prevent any trans-border movement. While the Chief Electoral Officer Sriram Taranikanti said that Webcasting of almost all polling booths will be done so that the Election Commission officials can monitor the polling process.
