Maneka Gandhi abuses 'corrupt' UP official

Union minister Maneka Gandhi seems to have taken a cue from BJP leaders in Uttar Pradesh and joined them in humiliating and abusing the government officials in public.

Maneka, who is a member of Lok Sabha from Pilibhit, about 300 km from here, was caught on camera "abusing" a senior state government official, who was accused of indulging in corrupt practices by people.

The minister lost her cool and confronted him after the people complained against the official, who is a supply inspector, during a "Janata Darbar" at Baheri in the constituency. She called him "fat" and used a cuss word to reprimand him.

"Kya izzat hai tumhari...admi izzat par jeeta hai.....tum mote ho rahe ho...logon ka khate ho," (what prestige do you have? People live for prestige. You are getting fat... You eat the share of public)," Maneka was heard saying in the video.

People present at "Janata Durbar" had accused the supply inspector of taking bribes for making ration cards.

Maneka has joined the long list of BJP leaders from UP who berate government officials publicly.

A few days back a lady IAS officer was accused of corruption by a senior BJP leader at a public function in the presence of two state ministers in Amethi.

Earlier, a lady IPS officer Charu Nigam was in tears after senior BJP legislator Radha Mohandas Agarwal publicly rebuked her in Gorakhpur.
