Government lists locations of 14 lakh affordable homes under PMAY in Maharashtra

The construction of houses in the MMR region will be carried out by MHADA while those in Khargar and surrounding areas will be constructed by CIDCO.

The government has identified locations of 14 lakh affordable houses that they are going to construct under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Maharashtra.

A DNA report stated that 2.20 lakh homes have been approved by the Centre, of which construction work for 25,857 homes has already started. Majority of these houses are in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

In the Pune Metropolitan Region, an additional 2.5 lakh homes are being added to the list.

The construction of houses in the MMR region will be carried out by Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), while those in Khargar and surrounding areas will be constructed by City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO).

On February 7, the state government's PMAY body received a green signal for the construction of 1.87 lakh additional affordable houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) with central assistance of Rs 2,797  crore.

Under PMAY, the state has received Rs 270 crore fund from the Centre for the project so far. "The funds amounting up to Rs 270 crore have been disbursed, we have more than 2.20 lakh homes and work on 25,857 homes have started," Milind Mhaiskar, Vice-President of MHADA, and nodal authority of PMAY, told the paper.

On February 18, the state government will sign Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) for 9.15 lakh affordable homes with several developer bodies including the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI).
