MUMBAI: The epidemic of suicide bids at Mantralaya is not getting over as one more woman tried to commit suicide near Mantralaya. Sakhubai Vitthal Zalte (65), a resident of Chandwad, tried to commit suicide by consuming some poisonous substance opposite Mantralaya near the secretariat building on Friday afternoon.
According to the police, the woman is a resident of Vadgaon Pangu (Tal- Chanwad, Dist: Nashik), she had an ongoing dispute with her family over a piece of land. Her father-in-law Bhika Laxman Zalte holds 3.57 hectare of land, but it was under dispute with Bhika’s brothers from 1947.
Sakhubai was appealed to block development officer (BDO) where the order was in her favour, but the opponent appealed to deputy collector and got a stay on the land. Because of this, Sakhubai was not getting the possession of the land.
She was insisting on possession of the land. On Friday, she came to Mantralaya with her son, who is an agricultural assistant in Pune. She was talking with some police officials near the secretariat building, where she suddenly consumed poisonous liquid and collapsed. This correspondent was passing through the same area and helped the police to rush her to St George’s Hospital.
Last month, Dharma Patil, a farmer from Dhule, committed suicide by consuming pesticide near Mantralaya. On February 8, Harshal Raote, a murder convict who was out on parole, committed suicide after jumping from the fifth floor of Mantralaya.
