Police deny reports of arresting suspect in the case

The police have intensified their search to nab the suspect, who assaulted 30-year-old software engineer, Lavanya Jangath when she was riding her two-wheeler, and robbed her of jewellery and valuables in Perumbakkam on Tuesday. They denied they had made any arrest/detention in the case, as reported in sections of the media.

Doctors at the private hospital where Ms. Lavanya is under treatment said that she was ‘out of danger’.

Her parents and friends are with her in the hospital.

After regaining consciousness at the intensive care unit on Wednesday, she gave the police sketchy details about the attack.

On Thursday, Deputy Commissioner of Police, St. Thomas Mount, S. Muthusamy visited her to get the full account of the incident.

Pursuing several leads

Mr. Muthusamy told The Hindu, “We are pursuing several leads. Over six teams have been formed to trace the accused. Soon we will nab them.”

The teams led by inspectors, including Pallikaranai Inspector P.K. Sivakumar, are fanning out across the city.

Police are also analysing a list of repeat offenders in the locality to get a breakthrough.

A senior police officer said, “We’ve retrieved all possible CCTV footage from the area. Call records of suspects are also being analysed. Over 50 persons have been questioned in connection with the incident.”
