The Paradip College’s 43rd annual function was held at the college premises on Thursday with State Planning Board Deputy Chairman and former Minister Bishnu Charan Das inaugurating the event.
Das in his speech said the students are the wealth of the country. They should follow the legendary Biju Patnaik who built the Paradip Port without Central permission and funds.
Das was displeased with the college Principal for his absence at the function. He assured that the demand of Students’ Union vice-president Sandip Kumar Palai for fulfilment of vacant posts of Lectures would be met. He also assured that boys’ and girls’ hostels of the college would be built very soon.
The meeting was presided over by Students’ Union vice-president Sandip Palai. Welcome address was given by Students’ Union advisor SM Mishra. BJD students’ wing general secretary Pradipta Kumar Bhuyan was chief speaker. Students’ Union assistant general secretary Debasis Das read out the annual report; and a vote of thanks was given by another union advisor RK Tripathy.
At the outset, the college students had welcomed chief guest Bishnu Das with a grand rally from Biju Patnaik’s statue to the college premises. The chief guest distributed prizes to the winners of different competitions organised by the Students’ Union.
Significantly, the college Principal’s absence is attributed to the standoff between local MLA and recently-dismissed Minister Damodar Rout and Jagatsinghpur district BJD president Bishnu Das in the district politics.
Prominent local trade union leader Santosh Kumar Patnaik played a major role in making Das’ Paradip visit a big success.
