East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) is all set to adopt a new gasification technology to convert solid waste into thermal energy.
A senior EDMC official said that an American company ‘Beltran Technologies, Inc’ made a presentation on the technology. The corporation would start generating energy by using huge piles of garbage very soon, he said.
KP Singh, Chief Engineer of EDMC said that with the initiative, the civic body will be able produce 2 MW of energy by processing 100 tonne garbage. “We are now exploring every opportunity to reduce the garbage in EDMC area, he said.
Gasification is a process that converts organic- or fossil fuel-based carbonaceous materials into carbon monoxide, hydrogen and carbon dioxide.
During the presentation, energy technologies based on biomass were discussed at length. Beltran Technologies Inc has sought to establish a plant on pilot basis in east Delhi, the official informed.
