BOURNE — With about 300 mourners at graveside, Rochester Pfc. Becket Kiernan was laid to rest Friday in Massachusetts National Cemetery in a ceremony steep in tradition and respect.

Hundreds of people lined the procession route to the cemetery and first responders stood atop overpasses on Interstate 195 as a show of respect for the 18-year-old Marine and 2017 graduate of Old Rochester Regional High School.

“I was impressed with the showing from the public. Words can’t describe. People lining the streets and overpasses,” said Fall River Officer Frank Andrade, an official with the Fall River Young Marines. Kiernan was a member of the group.

“It just confirmed what we knew that Becket meant something,” he said.

“He was one if the greatest people I know,” said Jay Travis, 13-year-old member of the Young Marines. “He was honest. He was trustworthy.”
