Wants leaders featured in footage examined

An assistant at Jayalalithaa’s Poes Garden residence on Thursday submitted 24 videos, comprising statements made by various political leaders on the treatment and death of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, to the Commission examining the circumstances of her death.

The lawyer for Karthikeyan, who spoke on his behalf, wanted the leaders in the videos examined.

“We have submitted a pen drive containing 24 videos. We have also requested that the individuals in the videos be examined. Those videos show various political leaders talking about Amma’s treatment and death,” said Mr. Karthikeyan’s lawyer Rajkumar Pandian, adding that videos of AIADMK leaders Ponnaiyan and P.H. Pandian had been submitted.

Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu member-secretary P. Balaji, who appeared before the Commission on Wednesday, met Justice A. Arumughaswamy and submitted an application on Thursday.

Misleading reports

He later clarified that certain media organisations had misreported his statement before the Commission on Wednesday.

“I attested her thumb impression in my capacity as a government doctor and not on the instructions of any official. The Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare and the Minister for Health and Family Welfare did not give any instruction to me regarding attestation of the thumb impression,” he added.
