Tusker strays into OUAT farm in city
A tusker strayed into the horticulture farm of the OUAT at Ghatikia here on Thursday from the nearby Chandaka forest triggering panic among the locals.
Forest Department officials rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. Twelve forest officials were engaged to guard the elephant and would drive it away into the forest in the evening, informed Chandaka Wildlife Division Ranger Ashok Kumar Biswal.
“The tusker is presently inside the farm which is a vast area. Generally, elephants do not move during daytime, but public disturbance has forced the tusker to move. We have confined the animal to the garden for now to avoid damage to public property and would drive it out towards the forest in the evening,” said Chandaka-Dampara Wildlife Sanctuary ACF Himansu Sekhar Mohanty.
