Authorities had issued an avalanche warning for the higher reaches of Kashmir following fresh snowfall on Monday.

A Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) advisory said a high danger avalanche warning was issued for avalanche-prone areas in Baramulla and Kupwara districts of Jammu and Kashmir while a medium danger avalanche warning was issued for Ganderbal, Bandipora and Kargil districts of the state.

This is the second incident of an avalanche hitting foreign skiers at Gulmarg this year.

On 18 January, a Swedish skier was killed when he was hit by an avalanche.
