State police to reward those helping injured in road accidents

In a humanitarian gesture, the State police have decided to felicitate  the persons and  the police personnel who would be found  admitting those injured  in the road accidents at  hospitals or found  saving lives by some other means with ‘traffic man of the month’ award  besides appreciation letters from the traffic directorate. Informing on Thursday,   the director traffic directorate DIG Kewal Khurana said that such a gesture from the traffic directorate is an imperative in view of people dying because of the indifference of others. He cited an instance of a cycle rickshaw driver informing police of an elderly person lying   unconcisous  near Barsati Canal on February 12. “He requested police to admit him at a hospital. We did the same. He was saved,” he added.   DIG Khurana further annoucned cash  reward and appreciation letter to traffic police personnel who got the elderly  person admitted at a  hosptial .

He also announced reward of Rs 500 in cash and appreciation letter for the  cycle rickshaw rider for his humanitarian gesture.

He further said that as per the Supreme Court’s guildines, the hospitals must admit the injured and the police would not pester those who bring the injured to the hospitals with questions.  He asked all the emulate the lead of the cycle rickshaw driver who helped a life being saved.
