The Thrissur Archdiocese has decided to appoint a commission to inquire into the Ollur church dispute after talks initiated by the archdiocese failed to settle the issue.
The commission will inquire into the complaints about the management of St. Antony’s Forane Church, Ollur, and into the dispute at a delegate meeting held last Sunday.
Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath held a discussion with complainants and heard their complaints. Further action would be taken after looking into the commission report, a release by the archdiocese said.
The arguments over the church management took an ugly turn last Sunday leading to a clash between two groups of believers, with a group demanding change of the church Vicar. However, the archdiocese made it clear that the situation did not warrant such a change.
A group of devotees even observed a hunger strike at the church on Wednesday raising the demand. They alleged that the Vicar was taking biased decisions in favour of a group. They also complained that public meeting of the parish had not been convened for the last year-and-a-half.
A strong police force was deployed in the area after the situation turned tense.
