Toss won by India (decided to bowl)

India beat South Africa by 8 wickets

Man of the Match: Virat Kohli

23:06(IST)

This is the 4th time that South Africa have lost 5 matches in a bilateral series overall.

23:04(IST)

FOUR! Kohli finishes with a fine straight drive, India win this one by 8 wickets. What a convincing job this has been from the Indian team. They win this one and also take the series 5-1.

23:03(IST)

FOUR! Now Rahane getting into the act, cuts one hard and with most of the fielders now in the inner ring, ball rushes away to the boundary. India just 2 runs away from a victory.

22:57(IST)

SIX and SIX! A maximum for Virat Kohli as he heaves one over the mid-wicket boundary. A proper slog sweep there. He follows that by coming down the ground and lofting one over long on. India need just 10 runs to win now.

22:53(IST)

Now, even a top edge goes for a boundary. Virat Kohli can do no wrong here. Despair for Ngidi, India need just 27 more runs to win here.

22:48(IST)

DROPPED! Half a chance there, but Phehlukwayo with a valiant effort there. He comes down and dives forward there but the ball just bounces off his hand. Kohli runs a single. Tahir isn't happy but that was a tough catch. India 172/2

22:45(IST)
22:42(IST)

100! Sensational from Kohli, he completes his 35th ODI century. One of the best too, chanceless and he reaches the milestone in just 82 balls. He will now be looking to stay unbeaten and guide India home.

22:37(IST)

FOUR! Another fine boundary for Virat Kohli, he just looks like a man possessed today! What an innings this has been from him, India need just 47 more runs to win here.

22:35(IST)

25 overs gone in the innings and India are already 154/2, they require just 51 more runs to pull off a convincing victory here. What a superb performance it has been so far.

22:31(IST)

Kohli with another boundary,  this time a pull off the front foot, standing tall and just pulling through the mid-wicket region. India move to 149/2 after 24 overs.

22:28(IST)

Two rather quite overs considering how India has been approaching this chase so far, they pick up just 6 runs from the two overs and India are 140/2 after 23 overs.

22:21(IST)

4 runs coming off the Tahir over as India simply going through the motions now, India move onto 134/2 after 21 overs here.

22:17(IST)

Kohli becomes the highest scoring batsman in a bilateral ODI series, he also reaches 500 runs in a single series.

22:17(IST)

There is no stopping Virat Kohli today, starts off the Phehlukwayo over with two crispy boundaries. The Indian captain is fast approaching 100 here as India move to 130/2 after 20 overs.

22:13(IST)

Imran Tahir also coming into the attack from the other end, he starts with a good over here, conceding just 2 runs as India move to 120/2 after 19 overs.

22:11(IST)

Phehlukwauyo comes into the attack for South Africa, but there is no stopping Virat Kohli today. Shows an exquisite drive past mid on as India move onto 118/2 after 18 overs.

22:06(IST)

A quite over for a change here, Morkel concedes just 3 runs from that one. India 113/2 after 17 overs and are totally in control here.

22:03(IST)

Virat Kohli scores his 47th ODI half century. He also surpasses George Bailey to become the leading run getter as a captain in a bilateral series:

22:00(IST)

50! Virat Kohli brings up his half-century in exquisite style as he hits one straight past the bowler for a boundary. Completely dominant performance from the Indian captain here. India are 110/2 here after 16 overs.

21:55(IST)

100 up for India, only in the 15th over. The pitch just looks different when Virat Kohli is batting, India again pick up 7 from that Morkel over as the score reaches 102/2.

21:51(IST)

India again picking up 9 runs in that over, Kohli seems to be in some kind of a hurry here today as India look to finish off the series in style. He is already on 47 off 33 balls.

21:47(IST)

Despite the wicket, India managing to get 13 runs from the over. That's how dominant the batsmen have been on this track. India move to 85/2 here after 13 overs.

21:43(IST)

WICKET! Ngidi strikes, Dhawan hits a perfect square cut, smashing it right off the middle there but hits it straight to Zondo, who takes good catch at point. India 80/2 as Dhawan departs for 25.

21:39(IST)

Morris has certainly been the pick of the bowlers as far as South Africa are concerned, another tight over from him, conceding just 3 runs. India 76/1 after 12 overs

21:38(IST)

This is the 4th time this series, Dhawan and Kohli have been involved in a 50+ run partnership.

21:37(IST)

India easily managing to get a boundary every over here, another expensive over for South Africa as Ngidi concedes 10. India move to 73/1 after 11 overs

21:33(IST)

Virat Kohli has surpassed Kevin Pietersen’s 454 runs to become the leading run getter in a bilateral ODI series against South Africa in South Africa.

21:31(IST)

Morris with a good over to begin with, but India still pick 4 runs from it. The quick start from Kohli-Dhawan has ensured that the required run-rate is already below 4. 10 overs gone here and India are 63/1.

21:23(IST)

Virat Kohli seems to be a man possessed here, again getting a couple of boundaries from that over. Ngidi tries to go short but both times Kohli picks the length quickly and dispatches the ball towards the boundary.

21:18(IST)

Virat Kohli continues to show some ominous form here, again getting a couple of boundaries in that over as SA rush to 42/1 after 7 overs.

Preview:

A historic series triumph sealed, India are expected to put their bench strength to test while a vanquished South Africa would aim for a consolatory win when the two sides square off in the sixth and final ODI, here on Friday. The Men in Blue have already won the six-match series with a 4-1 margin, after victories in Durban, Centurion, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Their only loss came at the rain-affected fourth ODI in Johannesburg. With victory in the last game, India also confirmed their No.1 spot in the ICC ODI Rankings, taking over from South Africa who were sitting atop at the start of this series. Having won the series, India would like to carry on momentum, especially with the three-match T20I series to follow soon after. Yet, the visitors would also like to find a balance between going all out in a dead rubber and resting a few players keeping in mind a long overseas schedule later this year. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has nearly played non-stop since the limited-overs leg of the tour of Sri Lanka, featuring in 19 ODIs and six T20Is as well as two Tests on this tour. Jasprit Bumrah too has played 20 ODIs since that Lanka tour, along with eight T20Is and his workload has only increased given that he played through the Test series here as well. Some rest will do both of them some good especially ahead of the next contest.

Alternately, India's second line of pace attack needs some attention. Since that Sri Lanka tour, the Men in Blue have played 20 ODIs and the Kumar-Bumrah duo has not featured together in only one of them -- at Bengaluru against Australia. One way to look at this is the splendid job they have done as the foremost new-ball pairing in limited-overs' cricket. The other way, of course, is that Team India is too dependent on them and should look to build back-up options, given the preparatory mode for the 2019 World Cup. Mohammed Shami has only played three ODIs since the 2015 World Cup. Ever since he returned from injury, he has featured twice against West Indies (2017) and then once against Australia. Shardul Thakur, the fourth pacer in this current squad, has only ever played in two ODIs. It suffices to say that India currently do not have a reliable second-choice pace attack and despite the success of Kumar-Bumrah combination, this aspect needs urgent attention. The middle-order continues to be another area of focus. There has only been one half-century contributed from Nos. 4-7 in this series. After Ajinkya Rahane's effort in Durban, only MS Dhoni came close at the Wanderers when he played the situation with 42 not out off 43 balls. Shreyas Iyer has got starts in both the matches he has played but failed to capitalise. Rahane too has fizzled out since his comeback at No.4. Hardik Pandya has scored 26 runs in four innings in this ODI series. The slow nature of pitches is one of the reasons being attributed to this downturn.

With the top-order doing well and essentially eating out 30-35 overs in every game, the middle-order has been forced to bat in high gear most of the time. It also needs to be mentioned that South Africa's death bowling is seen to be their only high point of the series so far. Either way, the Indian think-tank needs to pay more attention to their middle-order woes. Manish Pandey and Dinesh Karthik are in the squad yet it is tough to see both of them get a game here. The Indian team opted not to train today, taking this pre-match day off, on what has been a long and hectic tour. South Africa, on the other hand, would want to finish this ODI series on a high and take fresh guard for the Twenty20 International series, which gets underway on February 18. A clutch of their first-choice bowlers have been rested ahead of Australia’s tour here, and it is the last bow for the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Morne Morkel, Imran Tahir and Lungi Ngidi against India on this trip. They will be keen to make an impression. It remains to be seen if the Supersport Park pitch plays any different from how it did in the previous game here, which India won by nine wickets in rampant fashion.

The sixth ODI between India and South Africa will be played in Centurion and the live broadcast will be shown on Sony Ten Network, starting 4:30 PM. The match can be streamed online on Sony Liv.com. For live scores, updates, and analysis, you can follow our live blog on cricketnext.com.
