The head of a company that constructed the first wind farm of the country explains that it’s yet to receive any reports in terms of damage to fishing vessels in the area, off the coast of Rhode Island.
Deepwater Wind CEO Jeff Grybowski stated on Thursday that he considers claims by local fishermen are a “complete fabrication.”
The Providence-based company and the American Wind Energy Association industry trade group are advertizing new undersea footage recommending a vivacious marine habitat growing around the five-turbine wind farm. The video portrays mussels and fish clustered around the turbine bases and positive testimonials from local recreational fishermen.
Silver Dollar Seafood co-owner Daniel Farnham, of Montauk, New York, complains the clip doesn’t admit the familiarity of fishermen who explained that they’ve got their trawling gear smashed due to buried power cables.
This week, a short video on the American Wind Energy Association has been posted on YouTube from Deepwater Wind’s five-turbine operation off Rhode Island.
In the video, one can see mussels and fish clustered around the turbine bases. Also, positive testimonials from the local recreational fishermen and charter boat owners can also be seen.
