Former Professor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Vinod Kumar Jain has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University.

Former Professor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Vinod Kumar Jain has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University.
Jain has been appointed by the President of India, in his capacity as the Visitor of the Tezpur University, according to an official release issued by the University on Friday.
He will serve as the vice-chancellor for a period of five years from the date on which he enters upon his office or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.
A seasoned academician, Prof Jain has studied B.Sc from Agra University and completed M.Sc from Aligarh Muslim University.
He was conferred D. Phil from Sussex University, Brighton UK (1982).
Prof Jain served as a Scientist, Class I (1983-1985) in the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi before beginning his journey as an academician, when he joined JNU’s School of Environmental Sciences as an Associate Professor in 1985.
He taught MSc and MPhil classes for about 25 years at JNU.
He also took under-graduate Laboratory teaching at Sussex University (UK) from 1977-1981.
He has been also members of many academic and statutory bodies, such as, member on panel of experts of University Grants Commission (UGC), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Public Service Commission of Himachal Pradesh and Public Service Commission of Uttar Pradesh among others.
