PUNE: Two motorcyclists snatched the gold chain of a businessman outside the main gate of New Era Housing Society on
Bibvewadi-Kondhwa road around 10.40pm on Monday.
Kamlesh Goyal (31) and his family were taking a walk outside the society after dinner when the incident occurred. Senior inspector of Market Yard police Mohan Shinde on Wednesday said, “The suspects came on a motorycle and stopped on seeing Goyal with his family members. One of them brandished a knife and threatened the businessman with dire consequences. He then snatched the businessman’s chain worth Rs 65,000 and sped away.”
The businessman did not try to resist the robbers because of the presence of his family members, including two children aged six and eight years. The incident came to light after Goyal later contacted the police.
Senior inspector Shinde said new CCTV cameras had been installed on a building opposite the spot where the incident occurred, but they were not operational because the laying of cable lines to connect them was in progress.
“We have checked CCTV cameas at other nearby business establishments, but they are not facing the road,” Shinde said.
Goyal told the police that the suspects had covered their faces with cloth and wearing caps. They sped away in the direction of
Gangadham Chowk via Bibvewadi-Kondhwa road, he said.
“We are checking criminals on record and working on certain clues and hope to solve the case at the earliest. We have registered Goyal’s complaint under sections 392 (robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code,” he added.
