Pandian house attack: BJYM gen secy held

The Commissionerate police on Wednesday arrested Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) general secretary Rakesh Jena in connection with the attack on the residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s Private Secretary V Karthikeyan Pandian on February 10, taking the number of arrests to six in the case.

A resident of the Jharpada area in the city, Jena was later produced in court on the day.

Sources said that so far, six persons have been arrested in connection with the incident. One Balaram Khuntia had been arrested on Tuesday from Sarkantara.

Four more BJP youths Jugal Jyoti Swain, Rasmiranjan Muduli, Bibhuti Bhushan Prusty and Biswabhushan Badjena had been arrested and booked under Section 307 and other sections of IPC on the day of the incident. They were sent to the Jharpada jail after their bail petitions were rejected by the city SDJM Court.

Notably, nearly 40 youths carrying BJP flags had stormed into the official residence of Pandian. After overpowering the security staff at the gate, the activists smashed flower pots and damaged a two-wheelers parked at the premises. The protestors also pelted stones and cow dung at the main gate before police reached the spot.
