Issue relating to sanitary pads has been in the news for the past few days. Many organizations have demanded that there should be sanitary napkin vending machines for women in schools, colleges, government and municipal hospitals. Moreover, its relevance has once again come to the fore, as it is a key issue underlined in the film ‘Padman.’
The sanitary napkin machine has been installed in the women’s lavatory at the state transport depot in Mumbai Central
Other prominent personalities at the event included Shiv Sena’s Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray and State Transport Minister Diwakar Rawat. State Road Transport Corporation, Managing Director, Ranjit Singh Deol was also present at the event, along with employees from the bus depot.
According to the information provided by employees from the State Transport corporation employees, sanitary napkins will be made available at affordable rates.
1,500 passengers commute to and fro from Mumbai Central’s ST depot. Among this number, 300 to 250 passengers are women. This machine will fulfil the necessary sanitation requirement of these women.
Maharashtra State Road Transport Congress President, Shrirang Burge, said, “Insert two coins of Rs 10 or four coins of Rs 5 and then press the red button. Upon doing this, the machine will dispense a packet which will contain three sanitary napkins. This is the first machine to be installed in Mumbai. It will soon be available in 10 other depots in Maharashtra.”
