South Africa’s parliament is set to elect Cyril Ramaphosa as the country’s new president on Thursday, following the resignation of former incumbent Jacob Zuma .
A number of scandals surrounding Zuma had seriously damaged the ruling African National Congress (ANC).
South Africa’s parliament spokesman said the speaker had received Zuma’s resignation letter and that he was removed as president effective immediately, with Ramaphosa now acting president.
