New Delhi , Feb 14 : In order to promote sporting spirit among people of older age group in particular, Master Athletic Federation of India (MAFI) has conducted a three-day National Level Athletic Championships here in the national capital.
Around 3500 athletes from India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Phillippines are featuring in 26 different athletics categories in the event, which has begun today and will run till February 16 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Reflecting on the same, Major General (Retd) Dilawar Singh, Director General of the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), told ANI, "It is a three-day international event, which is conducted by the Master Athletic Federation of India. The event is featuring participants from three overseas countries namely Bangladesh, Nepal and Phillippines as well as from all over India."
"Around 3,500 athletes are participating in 26 different athletics events such as 100m race, 200m race, javelin throw, shot put etc. The event is featuring 10 age categories, including participants aged above 100.It is a very unique and important event," he added.
Dilawar further said that the aim of the event is to motivate the people of all age groups to keep themselves fit by engaging in sporting activities.
"I believe that youngsters should indulge in sporting activity for enjoyment and for self development. This event is being organized to motivate the people, especially the older aged, to engage in sporting event and keep themselves fit," he concluded.
