Motherson Sumi Systems plans 3 manufacturing plants in India

ETAuto reported that Motherson Sumi Systems (MSSL), the flagship company of the Samvardhana Motherson Group (SMG), is planning to open three new plants by the first quarter of FY20 in India. The auto parts maker is opening two new plants in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh. It is a process of backward integration. The first plant, which MSSL is planning, will manufacture a wide range of wires for automotive applications, and it will be operational by December 2018.

The other plant, the company is planning in Pithampur again, will manufacture wiring harness. This plant will be operational by March-April 2019. Basically, the first plant will support the second plant.

MSSL was established as a joint venture partnership with Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Japan for wiring harnesses manufacturing. The company manufactures wiring harnesses, high tension cords, battery cables and high level assemblies.

"The company is planning three new plants in India by financial year 2020. We will be coming up with two new plants in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh and one plant in Chennai," confirms GN Gauba, CFO, Motherson Sumi Systems.

The third plant, which the company is planning in Chennai, will manufacture rearview mirror, and this plant will be operational by the first quarter of fiscal 2020.
