Actress Aparajita quits Cong

In a jolt to the Congress, Odia cine star Aparajita Mohanty resigned from the party without mentioning any reason on Tuesday.

She neither mentioned anything about her future plan in politics. Aparajita, who had joined the Congress on February 20, 2014, unsuccessfully contested against BJD candidate Bhartruhari Mahtab from the Cuttack Parliamentary constituency in 2014.

After leaving Congress, she is expected to join the BJP soon.

Aparajita quit the Congress at a crucial juncture when the Bijepur by-election in Bargarh district is round the corner. The Congress was planning to engage a film star campaigner in the constituency.

Meanwhile, three more eminent Odia film actors, Mahasweta Ray, Anu Choudhury and Mihir Das have joined the BJP.
