Guwahati: Sanskrit is a "flexible" language and scientists have agreed that it is suitable for computer-based communications, Assam Governor Jagadish Mukhi said on Thursday.

It is a "scientific" language with a vast vocabulary, he said after inaugurating three-day conference - "Sanskrit: The Inexhaustible Source of Knowledge" - at Nalbari Guwahati.

"Flexibility is a notable aspect of Sanskrit, and scientists today have agreed that it is the most suitable language for communicating through computers," Mukhi asserted.

Sanskrit, the mother of all languages, has its origins in India and the world knows that, the governor said.

Former vice-chancellor of Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, New Delhi, Professor Radhavallabh Tripathi, who delivered the key note address at the programme, said Sanskrit is a source of wisdom and a potent medium for intellectual discourses.

The three-day conference has been organised by Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University under the patronage of the Assam Department of Education.

Lauding the efforts of the university, Mukhi said all branches of knowledge, be it humanities or sciences, have flourished in Sanskrit.
