A mothers love for her child is truly unparalleled and she would go to any extreme to make her child feel special. The list of examples of ‘mothers’ selfless love’ would be never-ending. But here’s a recent one that is sure to melt your heart and make you go ‘aww’! An amateur baker in the UK has made life-size versions of her twin daughters out of cake, to celebrate their first birthday and make them feel special. The 31-year-old mother, Lara Mason, spent over 100 hours creating the edible versions of her daughters, Lily and Lyla. Reportedly, Lara wanted to make something extra special for her babies, and what better than presenting them with life-size edible versions of themselves!

The cakes are so perfectly made that it is hard to spot the difference between the cakes and the babies at once. Naturally, it has required a lot of effort. Lara spent close to three weeks making the cakes. To make the life-size cakes resembling her babies, Lara had to use 44 eggs, 2.2 kg flour and 4 kg buttercream. The family is based out of Walsall, West Midlands. Lara states that her work was tougher because the twins’ cuteness was hard to replicate! And we couldn’t agree more. The Metro quotes Lara saying, “It’s the most critical I have ever been while making ‘cake people’ because I feel like I did such a good job making them so cute in the first place.” [Also Read: WHAT! Describing the cake, Lara says that it is a Madeira cake. Making it took close to 100-120 hours of work. The toughest part was the icing, which was completed last week. Making the hair of her twins was extra tough, says Lara. The hair is made out of pulled sugar and each individual strand was made separately. She states that after she posted the pictures of the cakes on social media to show friends and family, they all loved it. As you would imagine, the twins loved their birthday surprise and greeted the ‘cake’ by, well, destroying it! Lara says that her twins thought the cake were dolls and enjoyed their time with the cakes, they weren’t fussed or scared of them. But the cake lasted only about five minutes in the ring with the twins, reveals the mother.

Interestingly, Lara had initially started making cakes as a hobby for her family and friends. She then decided to enter the Cake International competition in November 2013. In the first year itself, she picked up Gold Award for her 5ft 5in replica of Captain Jack Sparrow Pirates of the Caribbean, and in 2015’s event, she bagged the same prize for her three foot high cake version of Prince George, reports the Metro. Lara adds that she loves coming up with newer ideas and making bigger and bigger cakes. Going forward, she plans to teach baking and pass on her secret sauce, so others can make their own creations. But ask her about the plans for the second birthday of her twins, and the loving mother only says, ‘I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve, you’ll just have to wait and see’. Well, we’ll have to be content with that for now!
