On Tuesday, Cyprus Tourism Minister, Giorgos Lakkotrypis explained that this year is anticipated to be the third consecutive year having record tourism arrivals.
He was giving speech at the annual conference of the Hoteliers Association Pasyxe, where members lay down a target of slowly attaining five million tourist arrivals every year.
Lakkotrypis explained that after 2017’s record of attracting 3.6 million tourists, everything points ‘to another good year for Cyprus’ tourism’.
“This is evident in the increase of available airline seats to Cyprus, the agreements we achieved with foreign travel organisers and information on reservation numbers,” he said.
In 2017, he stated that there was 15 percent rise in terms of tourism arrivals and reached €2.6 billion by November last year, far surpassing the year before.
Cyprus, he said, is often defined more than a ‘sea and sun’ destination. The main focus is to improve the tourism product of the island and turn its development sustainable.
He further added that the national strategy of the government in terms of tourism is to be introduced soon followed by a revised bill to parliament in order to create tourism secretariat.
The head of Pasyxe, Haris Loizides, expressed that the main focus of the tourism sector has to be to offer quality experience to the visitors, in general.
“The bet is quality and it is there we must invest. A high-quality customer service contributes to the creation of devoted customers,” he said.
“The performance, especially of the last two years, dictates that we must manage wisely and effectively the increasing demand for 2018.”
