KOCHI: BSF commandant Jibu D Mathews, who was caught with Rs 45 lakh from Alappuzha, has international links, according to the CBI. International smuggler Shibu Sheik is his friend.

The CBI made this submission on Wednesday while the CBI court was about to consider Jibu’s bail plea. The official who was posted along India-Bangladesh border had gone out of his way to help international smugglers. The money recovered from him was 0.the bribe he had collected for this help.

International smuggler against whom there exist Central agencies’ red alert notice Shibu Sheik is an acquaintance of Jibu.
Considering the above facts, the CBI asked the court to deny Jibu bail.   

Jibu was arrested by a CBI team on January 30 while he was travelling from West Bengal to Kerala in Shalimar Express. He had been under observation for quite some time following a tip off.
