Shrimaan Shrimati will return to TV after 24 years with fresh cast but old characters, director
With several iconic comedy shows from the past decades, like Khichdi, Hum Paanch and Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, making a comeback to the small screens, Shrimaan Shrimati is also set for a reboot with a new cast but the same premise, as reported by Mumbai Mirror.
The reboot is called Shrimaan Shrimati Phir Se and will reprise all the main characters from the popular 1994 show but with a new generation of actors. “Our writer Ashok ji and the two lead actors – Jatin ji and Reema ji – aren’t with us anymore but we have been constantly asked about the show’s return. So I reached out to the producers and came up with the idea to use the original script for the new season with new faces as Shrimaan-Shrimati. The show was ahead of its time so we have used the same dialogue as well but with a contemporary touch,” says director Rajan Waghdhare, who has already wrapped up 30 to 35 episodes, since the shoot began months go, as reported by Mumbai Mirror.
The original show premise has been retained which revolved around two married couples, Keshav Kulkarni, played by Jatin Kanakia, married to Kokila, played by Reema Lagoo, and their film actress neighbour Prema Shalini, played by Archana Puran Singh, married to her cuckolded husband Dilruba, played by Rakesh Bedi. The two husbands were attracted to each other’s wives and found ways to flirt with them at every given opportunity while engaging in a hilarious game of one upmanship against each other.
The revival will feature Barkha Bisht as Prema aka Doll, Suresh Menon as Dilruba Jarnail Singh Khurana, Samir Shah as Keshav Kulkarni and Sucheta Khanna as Kokila Kulkarni. “I have been in touch with Rakesh ji and he is excited to see the new season. Jaspal Sandhu, who played Mr Dalal in the original, is returning for the character. It was great fun shooting with him again. We’re trying to bring back as many original cast members as possible,” said director Ranjan, revealing his nostalgia for the original team, as reported by Mumbai Mirror.
