Mumbai: Dharma Patil, a farmer from Dhule who committed suicide in Mantralaya last month, will be eligible for more compensation than declared by the government earlier. His kin may get Rs 54 lakh after revaluation of the crop on their farm.
The revised report has been sent by the Dhule District Collector to the Energy Department. Patil (84) was fighting against the system for inadequate compensation that he had received for his land in Dhule, which was acquired for a solar power project. He came to Mantralaya to meet senior officers and chief minister and after being denied a meeting he committed suicide by consuming poison last month.
Patil’s land in Vikhran village was acquired for a power plant in the district. Patil was offered compensation of Rs 6 lakh for 5 acres of acquired land, while the adjacent land was compensated with a huge amount.
As per the revised formula, Late Dharma Patil will get compensation of Rs 28 lakh, while his son Narendra Patil will get compensation of Rs 26.42 lakh for the five acres. As per the revised plan, Rs 1,70,701 plus the same amount will be given as relief.
The family of Dharma Patil will get an amount of Rs 54,48,132 now as per the revised proposal including the ex-gratia.
The other 198 farmers will also get benefit of revised compensation under the MGNREGA formula.
Power Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said, “We had asked the collector to re-survey the farm and the crops of the
Dharma Patil and his family, where they had cultivated fruits. After the report, the amount will be certainly increased, but the final amount has not been calculated.”
